The following pages list possible solutions for more
commonly found problems that may affect proper bonding
for various applications. While these are the more common
bonding problems, there are other variables which may
affect the proper performance of the adhesive being
used. The more common problems are as follows:
| PROBLEM |
DESCRIPTION |
| Precure |
No transfer or spotty transfer of adhesive from core to face sheets or edge to edge. Spread marks show on substrate. Pieces do not stick together. |
| Starved Joints |
Not enough adhesive applied to joint area or insufficient adhesive remaining in joint area. |
| Spotty Bonds |
Good spread or adhesive in some areas, poor in others. |
| Weak Bond |
Pieces bonded are easily separated. |
| Warpage |
Any variation from a flat, true panel. |
| Excessive Squeeze Out |
Adhesive runs down panels during press period. |
| Lack Of Squeeze Out |
Small beads of adhesive not seen around panels while being pressed. |
| Blows & Blisters |
Mostly in center part of large panels, throughout all veneer construction. |
| Bleed Through |
Areas difficult to finish or will not take stains due to excessive penetration of adhesive through the surface of the face sheet. |
| Face Checking |
Lengthwise separation (cracks) of the wood. |
| Low Water Resistance |
When tested for Type II Soak Strengths & Wood Failure, will be below minimum requirements, or pieces could delaminate. |
